We should return to our tradition- Ezenwobi Orafu

  Ogbuefi Ezenwobi Orafu (Ezeigbuana 1 of Nimo, Aka ji Ofor) is a die-hard traditionalist who believes that Christianity and tradition (Ome n’ani) are mutually beneficial. The custodian of the Okofia deity is vexed that the Igbo tradition and culture is dying out and calls on Ndigbo to return to their tradition, especially the Igbo language. Alongside his devotees, he spoke to Gabriel Alonta on the side-lines of the Okofia cultural festival. When Okofia began When and how Okofia began is a mystery that no one can tell. I became the chief priest of Okofia 20 years ago (1997), when I was still a civil servant. The custodian of Okofia died then, and I was chosen to replace him. We have been carrying out this annual ritual just as it was done in the olden days.   Okofia is a big deity in Nimo. There are oracles under it in Uruokofia, Nimo.
